Art and Writing Groups

Having Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)/Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD) can feel isolating, lonely, and confusing - particularly when first receiving a diagnosis. In 2018, we launched free art and creative writing groups for adults diagnosed with the condition. These activity groups offer a safe, non-judgmental, and welcoming environment for individuals to express themselves creatively. No prior skill or experience is necessary for attendance.

IMPORTANT: Please note there are no groups currently running, as these depend on recruiting a volunteer to organise, coordinate the logistics, and promote such activities. Please check back here, on Facebook, or Instagram for updates. You can also request to join our private Facebook group using the QR code on this page.

If you would be interested in volunteering as a group coordinator, apply here.

About the Workshops

The groups focus on exploring and celebrating the positive aspects of participants' lives, rather than as therapy sessions to address difficulties. In the art group, we create art that expresses our qualities, interests, quirks, happy memories, and more. In the writing group, we engage in games, writing exercises, discussions, and other activities to produce writing that expresses our individuality and helps with emotion regulation.

The positive focus is deliberately chosen to challenge the perception that individuals with BPD are defined solely by their diagnosis and the associated symptoms. We aim to create a space where members can have fun while creatively expressing themselves and building a more positive self-image and sense of identity.

What our members say...

Attending this group has really opened up a new way for me to express myself. Things are still very tough, but having a safe, friendly environment where my inner creativity is encouraged to come out has been so beneficial for me.

And now I'm using the skills I learn in the group to help me at home - art is now helping me in times of crisis as a distraction/ soothing technique that I wouldn't have used before. This group has been a real lifeline for me, so I just want to let you know it really is appreciated.
