Calm within carnage
Karla Barnes
As the pain spreads
Like the tide rising
Thoughts race
Like crashing waves
Crushing chest pain
As if you’re going under
Then I remember I am in charge
I control my breathing and my thoughts
Breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth
I start to feel the ground beneath me
Slowly the waves come to a holt
I can see the moonlight reflecting in the soothing ripples of the water
Peace and silence fill my head
The pain disappears
Calm is restored once again
