Amber Joy Kostecki
At six years old I announced that I was going to be an artist when I grew up. I’ve been creating and honing my craft for over 35 years. I love creating something out of nothing. There’s a certain magic that comes with creating something beautiful and sublime with your own two hands. It’s a very empowering feeling. I take a multifaceted and multi-disciplined approach to art. I create with all mediums, especially favouring pastel pencils, acrylic, sculpture, and collage, but I try to incorporate new and different styles and materials into each piece.
My mental health, my life, and my emotions are what inspire my art. I put all of my feelings into each piece, and sometimes it becomes sort of a form of therapy even. Because of the view I have that mental health support should be freely given, I don’t sell my art. Instead, I give it to people who I know will truly appreciate it. “Being creative is not a hobby, it’s a way of life.”
